We asked Faye (mother of the bride) and Greer (bride) questions: How can moms participate when they are not in town? What are the top jobs that can be done at a distance? How do you handle shower plans? How did you select the invitations and wedding attire? How can moms provide emotional support from a distance? What worked best - phone or e-mail? Faye and Greer discuss how they handled plans and decisions from afar. It’s all about communication and this mother daughter team made it work. Faye and Greer have a wonderful mother and daughter blog where they post beautiful ideas daily. They will inspire you and your preparations for that walk down the aisle. The wedding cake has been an important part of the wedding celebration since Roman Times. The wedding cake as we know it today, with layers, supporting pillars, & fancy frosting, has its origins in the wedding cake that commemorated the marriage of one of Queen Victoria’s daughters in 1859. Through the years, the wedding cake has become the focus of a variety of customs and traditions. Let them Eat Cake, a wedding cake competition is Philadelphia’s largest wedding fundraiser. Now that’s a tradition worth talking about. Mark Kingsdorf, owner of The Queen of Hearts Wedding Consultants, founded Let Them Eat Cake in honor of his mother Lois’ loving memory. Having been directly affected by a woman living with breast cancer it was a natural for him to start the Let Them Eat Cake for City of Hope’s Cancer Center. It is a privilege to support Mark and join forces to raise awareness and much needed funding for cancer treatment and research. More than 40 of the Philadelphia region’s top pastry arts professionals and students competed for “top chef? at the third annual Let Them Eat Cake benefit held at the elegant Park Hyatt. Participants displayed their single best design and provided one totally edible creation. Cakes were judged by culinary arts and wedding industry professionals including Carrie Denny of Philadelphia Elegant Wedding magazine, Thom Cardwell from Thom's Table, Michael Giletto from Cherry Valley Country Club and Phyllis Stein-Novack of the South Philly Review. The cakes were given awards for Most Artistic, Best Tasting and Best Overall. Wedding Podcast Network interviewed many participants including aspiring students and culinary professionals. We asked them about their personal designs & fillings. We also asked them what they love about designing wedding cake. Hear some great stories behind the scenes. Hundreds of culinary
enthusiasts and brides-to-be attended this amazing evening. Once the cakes were
sampled and judged the public - brides, grooms and Philadelphia
foodies - sampled the entries. What a great opportunity for engaged
couples to see, taste and be inspired by a variety of different cakes
that they may choose for their own wedding day. Robert Allen and Doug Gordon talk about Doug's book The Engaged Groom. Robert asks Doug what inspired him to write the book. When Doug got engaged in August 2003 he wanted his blog to have a focus. He was busy wedding planning so he wrote about it... engaged from the groom's point of view. Robert asks Doug how he thinks chronicling the wedding experience helped the wedding planning process. Doug wrote about every last detail and learned more about weddings than the average guy. How did his wife Leora feel about this? Robert and Doug discuss
how to be an engaged groom. Great ideas to get involved. Be the
producer, delivery guy, food tester...you like to eat, right?
Make and keep track of the budget. Build a personalized wedding
website. What is the number one thing you can do to help to guarantee your efforts will be appreciated? Listen to find out. Engagements last at least 6 months. You need to stop looking at lists and swatches. It's time for a good dose of sanity. All couples need to hear about Doug and Leora's wedding-free zone. This is one of many useful Engaged Groom tips you will find within this show. Do you micromanage your wedding? Did you actually listen to the lyrics when making your music selections? Did you realize your favorite love song is about heartbreak? Just because a song has a good beat doesn't mean it's appropriate at a wedding. Great advice: a Do Not Play List. The bachelor party discussion. Open communication is key. Be sensitive to your fiance's wishes and be honest. Are you comfortable with the plans? Are you a little older? Do you both work? Would you want to plan your second wedding different than your first? Hyela does and embraces her second walk down the aisle with much happiness. Jack, never married before, has two proposals to make. Hear how Jack includes Sabrina, Hyela's 8 year old daughter. Later in the show you find out that Jack selected the simple, yet sexy Elizabeth Fillmore wedding dress at Saks Fifth Avenue. It's a red carpet winner for Hyela's big day. Hyela and Jack have a year to plan their New York City wedding. They know they want an intimate and elegant location. Having no time to really work on a wedding, they hired an event coordinator, Kristin Manolis of Manolis & Company Productions. We asked this busy, engaged couple how they found Kristin and how they worked together. Date: Thanksgiving weekend. Place: The Essex House. What next? This special couple wanted a party -not a traditional "first" wedding. Music and entertainment was such important components that they had a separate coordinator. Ever think of including your guests into the lyrics of a song? Would you want someone famous to officiate? At first Jack was not enthusiastic, but was ultimately touched by former Mayor David Dinkins' heartfelt words. The ceremony was touching & meaningful for Hyela, Jack and their guests. Hyela worked very closely with Kristin when designing floral centerpieces and the creative stationery system. Individual menus had beautiful calligraphy and were presented in the round. Some really unique and innovative designs were incorporated to reflect this couple's taste and personality. Best advice: definitely hire an event coordinator. After interviewing three or four possible candidates Hyela and Jack were very pleased with Kristin's ability to orchestrate and produce a fabulous wedding. They said, "Kristin does all the work. We expressed our desires and chose exactly what we wanted . Guaranteed you'll have less mistakes, headaches and hassles." Do you want to leave an amazing impression on your guests? Welcome to the premier show of Here Come the Moms. Finally, moms get their most important wedding-related questions answered! Co-hosts, wedding author Sharon Naylor and Holli Ehrlich provide the latest information for the mothers of the bride and the mothers of the groom. Brides and moms will learn how to work harmoniously for the perfect wedding experience. In this episode Sharon & Holli agree that weddings are a happy business and mothers are an important component in wedding planning and ever after. Weddings are different than five or ten years ago. Sharon's books, The Mother-of-the-Bride Book and Mother of the Groom, were inspired by moms who are confused about their roles. They feel caught in the middle of old world and new world traditions. They are not sure what they are supposed to do or where they fit in. This podcast will help all moms and step moms enjoy the excitement, the creative process, the celebration. Planning your wedding is a momentous yet short-lived chapter of your life. "Expectations are premeditated resentments," cites Sharon. You are bound to be disappointed if you don't have realistic expectations. Listen and learn how to communicate with your mother and the entire family. Roles may have changed, but brides absolutely want their moms included in the wedding planning. Brides today are older, more assertive. Moms used to be co-planners and now they are part of a team. Dads and grooms are more involved. How can a bride and groom pay tribute to their extended family? Sharon and Holli discuss this and a lot more about the importance of building and securing lasting future relationships. Stay tuned for upcoming show topics: the new roles and rules for parents, fashion trends, etiquette Do's and Don'ts, conflict resolution tips and more. Henry and Michelle Roth take you behind the curtains in
their NYC showroom with real bride Ruth.
She took a train from Many questions are asked of Ruth - Are you nervous about
today's appointment? What type of
wedding are you having? Did you use the
Internet when looking for the gown? Did
you go to any sample sales? Did you bring
a shoe with the right heel height and lingerie? Are
you happy with the proportion of the bodice?
What are you most conscious of? When you try on a sample size can you vision
how it will look once fitted? What does
the bride want to hide on her body the most?
Why are you uncertain? Can every bride have a better shape and a more flattering, slimming result with a proper fitting? We learn about measurements, the usage of corsets and the proper hemline. Some of the important alteration lessons in this podcast are: Your consciousness about your body must be communicated honestly. It's all about the dress fitting correctly. When you look at a photo on a website you are looking at a runway model wearing a dress that has been altered to fit perfectly. Numbers are only important to the seamstress. They are irrelevant to the bride. All that matters is that the bride feels good. Will Ruth find the gown of her dreams? What are the pitfalls of alterations? What do you need to know when you walk into the alterations room? This and much more on Part 3. Stay tuned. Click here to listen to the podcast
